The wife of John Lennon’s killer has revealed he told her he would kill the Beatle two months before the murder. Gloria Hiroko Chapman said as soon as the news broke that Lennon had been shot dead, she knew it was her husband Mark. Despite that, she has remained faithful to him during his 38 years in jail and said they have even been allowed to have sex in a caravan on the prison grounds.
As a devout Christian, Gloria said she is now praying for his release when he comes up before the parole board later this month. John Lennon, 40, was shot dead on the doorstep of his New York apartment on 8th December 1980. He received four bullets in the back at close range and bled to death cradled by his wife Yoko Ono. Two months before the murder, Chapman had travelled to the city and told his wife he wanted to make a name for himself by shooting the British superstar.
In the end, she recalled, he told her their love is what stopped him. However, he returned to the city and Gloria believed him when he said the trip was to spend some time to ‘think about his life.’ But as soon as she turned on the television and heard the reports, she knew he had lied about throwing away his gun. Gloria told the Mirror: ‘I knew it was Mark. How did I know? Two months earlier, Mark had travelled to New York. He came home scared, telling me that to make a name for himself he had planned to kill the former Beatle star. But he said my love had saved him.
